Great visit by Dr. Philyaw today! She heard about the 6th grade expedition. Learners explained the fascinating world of the human body, metabolism, & the microbiome. They explained how they diagnosed conditions & wrote compassionately to mock patients. @eusd @eleducation

Conway Lockdown Campus Incident: The safety of our students and staff is always a top priority. We want to make our school community aware of an incident this afternoon that resulted in Conway Academy of Expeditionary Learning being placed on lockdown status. Shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday, a staff member reported hearing a gunshot in the surrounding area. Another staff member reported seeing a suspicious individual with what appeared to be a firearm. Staff members called 911, and the Conway campus was placed on lockdown status. A lockdown involves locking and barricading all doors, and securing the perimeter when safe. Escondido police officers responded immediately, and a suspect has been arrested. Out of an abundance of caution, the campus lockdown status was in place for about 30 minutes, resulting in a delay in the dismissal procedure. Police confirmed that it was safe to lift our lockdown status shortly after 3 p.m. We appreciate your ongoing support and cooperation as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff.

Our Reclassification ceremony honored 17 students that met rigorous criteria. Reclassification indicates that an English Language Learner attained academic English fluency & achieved a level of English proficiency to compete academically with native English speaking peers. EPIC!

Families of students in 6, 7 & 8 grade are invited to take part in the Reading Workshop Series "Carlito's Story". Carlito's Story is about a young boy who is faced with some big decisions about who he is hanging out with and how he will pursue his own dreams. His parents have even bigger decisions to make if they are to parent their son in a different style than how they parented their daughters, Graciela and Rosa. - This is a violence prevention program and discussions will be had in regards to how to best support adolescent students.
