Conway Community News - Week 245

 Week 25 - February 12th, 2023

Alive with Inquiry and Learning

Greetings Conway Community,

Our campus was alive with inquiry and learning this week.  Classrooms were buzzing, students were engaged, teachers were honored, and visitors were impressed by what they experienced.

This week the Escondido Education Foundation honored our very own art/intervention teacher, Ms. August as their Caring Heart recipient at their Fall in Love Fundraising event that took place on Friday.

This week we also announced our Conway Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Devlin! Here are few of the words her peers have shared about her.

She is a strong teacher who is consistent, hard working and always keeps what's best for her student's academic and social learning as her focus.  She is a dedicated team player and an EPIC teacher in every way, who is loved by her students and looked up to as a peer and mentor for others.

An  incredible hard work and dedication to her students to help them become the best they can be and continually grow.

She not only works hard for her students, but she also mentors future teachers and coaches them through kind, specific, and purposeful feedback.

Congratulations Mrs. Devlin!

On Wednesday, EUSD held its annual Writing Celebration at Bear Valley Middle School.  During this event, students are honored for their high quality writing at every grade level. Congratulations Lilia Mejia, Abby Ochoa, Emily Rosales, Maddox Roxas, Emily Santibanez, Olive Chrones, and Angelica Enriquez. Way to be EPIC!

On Friday, Conway learners welcomed Mayor White to our EPIC school. Ambassadors led a campus tour and classroom greeters explained how and what they are learning.  This was the Mayor’s first visit to a school since he won the election in November and stated that he was pleasantly surprised and impressed by our students.  He said, this is not the sit and get school traditional school, it was definitely alive with learning.  We are also working on a potential partnership for our students to provide input on some of our city’s issues.  Stay tuned for more information. He heard how Conway learners are eager to partner in making the world a better place.

This is a short week for us as we approach the President’s Holiday weekend.  Our crew will celebrate Kindness week with a special focus for each day.  Let’s shine kindness, love, and bring on the JOY Crew!

As we continue to work hard and grow our hearts, minds and spirits, students are preparing for their student-led conferences to be held the last week of February.  Please see the SLC letter sent home by your classroom teachers in 2nd - 6th grades. Kindergarten SLC letter and first grade SLC letter will follow a different schedule.  This second round of conferences is a very unique opportunity for your student to share their progress this year.  It is also a unique practice for our school and the only school in EUSD that successfully holds a second student-led conference during an academic year.  We believe it’s crucial to keep our families informed and crucial for us to create this partnershp in learning for our students. Please schedule your time for this special appointment this week.

I am  grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion.  Together we are creating an EPIC school.  We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.

In Crew,

Principal Meglich
