Greetings Conway Families,
As an Expeditionary Learning School, students produce high-quality work for presentation to audiences within and beyond the school. In fact, this past week two student ambassadors, Aubrey and Allison, spoke to the Escondido Women’s Club about Crew and what it means to Conway students and the impact of learning. The group of women were interested in hearing about the credential process and how Conway began this journey. Learn more about the impact and the credential process here- http://elcredential.squarespace.com
In the Cr8 after school enrichment class, students learned about Japanese Suminagasht art. Suminagashi is the Japanese art of marbling, dating back to the 12th Century. Translating directly to 'floating ink', the marbling process uses a richly pigmented sumi ink floating on water, which is then manipulated into distinctive patterns. Students were deeply engaged in their works of art. Art fosters curiosity about the world around them.
The Primacy of Self-Discovery is one of our EL Education Design Principles. This week our 6th grade students exemplified this principle. Learning happens best with emotion, challenge, and support. Students took on a task that required them to persevere as they overcame emotions and fear during their second dissection this year. Students worked in partners or alone in the task to identify the four chambers of the heart and explain how blood passes throught the body.
Last week we ended our first Trimester on November 10th. Report cards are scheduled to go out on November 18th. This is a good time to review your scholar’s progress toward mastery of standards. If you have questions, please reach out to your classroom teacher.
We are grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion. Together we are creating an EPIC school. We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.
