Students Transfer their Knowledge to Meaningful Tasks

Week 14 - November 6th, 2022

Greetings Conway Families,

As an Expeditionary Learning School, students develop a deeper understanding within each discipline and then transfer that knowledge to meaningful tasks. This week in first grade students started a new module that inspired them to build their literacy and citizenship skills as they engage in a study of tools and work.  First grade students collaboratively applied their knowledge in building planters and bookcases.

In STEM students learned to code and successfully designed a working dump truck. In  math, students grappled with math concepts and used strategies to explain their thinking.

This week we also come up on the end of our first Trimester on November 10th.  Report cards are scheduled to go out on November 18th. This is a good time to review your scholar’s progress toward mastery of standards.  If you have questions, please reach out to your classroom teacher.

It’s that “fall back” time of year! Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 6. Be sure to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night. As a reminder, all EUSD schools and the district office will be closed next Friday, November 11, in observance of the Veterans Day holiday.

We are grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion.  Together we are creating an EPIC school.  We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.

Crew Spirit

Our Friday spirit days promote our EPIC culture and climate across our school.  Creativity is often sparked as students when students show their spirit.  Our next spirit day Western Day on November 18th!  So get out those cowboy boots and hats and get ready to wrangle up some crew spirit.

This week EPIC students welcomed Assistnat Superintendent, Dr. Philyaw into their classrooms and eagerly explained learning targets and strategies they are participating to meet their learning goals.

Gratitude Jars

Beginning this Wednesday, students and families will have the opportunity to express their gratitude to their teachers and staff. We are happy to bring back our tradition of GRATITUDE JARS.  These jars are about capturing the spirit of crew, celebrating gratitude, capturing joy by  expressing words of gratitude. Life is short, words often go unsaid, so join in this tradition.  The rack of jars will be out by the blue tables beginning this Wednesday, November 9th.
