Creating Connections!

Week 6 - September 11th, 2022

Greetings Conway Families,

Our crew’s perseverance was  tested this week with the extreme weather conditions.  Students persevered and we look forward to the return of regular outdoor activities next week.

Creating connections was a focus for our site this week.  The return of DENS was a highlight for us all. As an Expeditionary Learning school, we focus equally on relational character development, building a sense of belonging  and developing academic skills equally! The practice of dens is unique to Conway.   Dens are multi-age crews that meet once a month with a den leader/adult mentor.  Students remain in the same den throughout their entire time at Conway.  For example, my current 4th grade students in my den were my TK students in 2016. It’s a very special connection that is made.   During this joyful meeting, lessons introduce students to concepts related to our motto, “We are Crew, not passengers” and explore the purpose of crew.  It is a powerful practice that deepens our connections with students and provides students another trusted adult they can seek out.  Parents/guardians, ask  your learner about their den this week. Ask who leads their den. Ask about the lesson.  This month,  students explored the concept of “friend”ship and together unpacked this quote by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Crew is our foundation and why we “do crew” and why their participation in Crew is valued and expected.

Just a reminder, our EPIC run has been rescheduled for 9/21/22.  If your student hasn’t registered, there is still time.  We look forward to the EPIC event.

Our next edition of the Conway Community Chronicle, September 2022 is here.  Stay informed of upcoming events and make sure to read the entire Weekly Communication.

Together we are creating an EPIC school.  We are grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion.

In crew,

Principal Meglich

Family Engagement

You’re Invited!

Thursday, September 15th at 8:30 am in room 5.

We are grateful for the return of our Coffee and Crew with the Principal.  Parents/guardians are invited to join this monthly morning meeting to hear EPIC news, discuss ideas, share thoughts, and concerns.  Be part of this community crew and meet other Conway parents.  Each month, Principal Meglich invites a support staff member to be part of the conversation.  This month, Mrs. Sima will join this crew.

We are so excited for all the inquiries regarding becoming a volunteer at Conway. Two forms will be sent home next week that will help us determine our families interest and inform families of some volunteer opportunities. The Family Engagement Programs Survey and Leadership Crews are a couple of brief surveys that will help us gather information to better serve our families.

3 goals in the net = Popsicle Party!!!

School Library Technician

Sadly our wonderful Mrs. Stencel will be leaving at the end of the month.  She will be moving closer to family in Arizona and fully understand that family is always first.  This leaves an opening at Conway.  If you are interested or know of someone that would like to join our Crew, please share the information and the link Apply here!

Every day, Conway students are learning and creating in innovative ways, and we are eager to share this work with the community and our national audience as an Expeditionary School via our new website and enhanced social media presence. As a reminder, a media release for your student is collected at the time of registration, with the option of opting out. No student personal information or identification is ever shared when we are showcasing students engaged in our programs. You may contact our front office if you would like to update your child’s media release status. We appreciate you letting us share their smiles!

EduRooms, Rooms, EUSD App

As you already know, we are preparing to make the switch from Class Dojo, to using the EUSD app (also known as Rooms) as our main platform for communication.  To help facilitate this matter, Mrs. Sima and Mrs. Maldonado will continue to support families and troubleshoot connectivity issues.  Feel free to come and ask any questions you may have at asima@eusd.org, xmaldonado@eusd.org or contact the front office.

Thank you all for your patience. We are doing our best to have all families connected as soon as possible. Have a great evening!

Crew Spirit Day-  Crazy Sock Day to “Show off our Socks like our ForeFathers”

Constitution Day is recognized on September 17 as the day in 1787 when delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document in Philadelphia. In addition to learning about the Constitution, the day presents the opportunity to discuss civics and what it means to be a citizen in a global society. I encourage you to check out these resources from the County Office of Education, including several interesting workshops on civic learning.
