Principal Update #20

Happy New Year Conway Community!

I hope you all had time to connect, recharge and you feel ready to return this week. With the New Year, comes new opportunities for change, growth, and excellence. Our Conway Crew looks forward to the year ahead and excited to welcome back our learners.

Together we will be ready for challenges and achievements that are bound to come. We look forward to your continued support and commitment to expeditionary model and especially our spirit of crew that creates an undeniable feeling of connectedness and care as we achieve more than we thought possible together. We truly believe that WE ARE CREW, NOT PASSENGERS.This week students return on Tuesday and we cannot wait to welcome them all back.

Dens

On Thursday, Dens return for our monthly meeting and DENS take the place of our weekly Crew Celebration assembly. Dens are multi-age crews that meet monthly with their den leader/teacher. These students remain with the same leader and students during all the their years at Conway. It's a very special structure for relationship building as our older learners mentor our younger learners during this time. This is unique to Conway and I encourage families to ask your learner about DENS. As an Expeditionary Learning School, the tradition of crew is both a culture and a structure. Crew impels us to work together and to support everyone's learning and growth and Dens is another one of those structures that deepen connections. This practice is deeply connected to our EUSD Framework for the Future and our Expeditionary Learning model.

EPIC Awards

Mid-Year EPIC awards are also approach quickly. Communication will be coming home from teachers. Please Save the Date! Finally, this Friday is a minimum day with a 12:10pm dismissal and Monday is a federal holiday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr Day.

As we begin this year, it gives me great joy to welcome a new member to our Conway Crew. Daisy Arroyo is Conway's new social worker. She is an Escondido resident and has a passion for working with our learners and our community. Please read more about Miss Arroyo below. You can reach out to her by email, darroyo@eusd.org.

Communication is extremely important for our EPIC school. Please make sure to scroll all the way through the weekly message. If you miss a message, you can view all communication on our website under "NEWS".

I am grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion. Together we are creating an EPIC school.

We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.

Always in crew,

Tina Meglich, Principal
