As an Expeditionary Learning School, we believe that fostering habits of character are equally as import as scholarly habits. We provide many opportunities for our learners to practice empathy, honesty, respect, and compassion daily. Our learners play a key role in practices that we have in place by mentoring our younger learners. One practice we have is Cougars and Cubs. Older learners apply to mentor our younger learners (cubs) that are recommended by teachers for various reasons. Sometimes it's to support reading, math, making friends, or having someone to connect with that is older. Our Cougars and cubs leadership crew is led by our school counselor, Ms. Smith. Cougars are supported as they mentor their cub. They are examples of Empathetic collaborators as they learn to listen, build on their cub's strengths and interest in order to foster a positive friendship. Today Cougars and cubs spent quality time in our Discovery Lab during their first meet and greet.
Communication is extremely important for our EPIC school. Please make sure to scroll all the way through the weekly message. If you miss a message, you can view all communication on our website under "NEWS".
I am grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion. Together we are creating an EPIC school.
We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.
Always in crew,
Tina Meglich, Principal
