Conway Community News - Week 33

As an EL Education school, Conway recognizes that all speakers, at whatever level of proficiency, are constantly learning and improving their English and building extended discourse skills.  Some of our multi-lingual learners are acquiring English as a second, third, or fourth language, and we focus on celebrating multilingualism and biliteracy.  We optimize and see this as an incredible asset.  This Friday, we proudly recognized eighteen students that “Reclassified”.  Reclassification is the term used to indicate that an English Language Learner has attained academic English fluency.  More specifically, Reclassification indicates that an English Language Learner has achieved a level of English proficiency that, without special accommodations related to language, will enable him/her to compete academically with native English speaking peers.  This is a remarkable achievement and one to be lifted up and celebrated.

On Saturday, EUSD held its 11th annual SmArt Festival.  Hundreds of families came out to see the incredible performances and the high quality art being created around our district.  A special thanks to Ms. August, our amazing art teacher, for all her hard work in preparation for this event.  And to our student ambassador, Olive, for her leadership and sharing all about the amazing art created.

Learning is public for sure at Conway.  This week we hosted educators from Mission Estancia in Encinitas.  These educators were curious about our empowered learners and were impressed to see student leading their learning.

We are crew, not passengers is the motto that we all live by at Conway.  Our staff crew returned from spring break energized and ready for this last stretch until the end.  Staff engaged in tableaus that demonstrated joyful breaks.  We love our Crew!

I am  grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion.  Together we are creating an EPIC school.  Here is another example of our EPIC Crews.

We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.

In Crew,

Principal Meglich

Family Engagement

Parent Leadership

We need your help!  Parent leadership is a crucial part of learning and our Conway Crew.  PTA, School Site Council, and ELAC need parents to fill open positions.

Please reach out to Xochitl Maldonado, xmaldonado@eusd.org to put your name in.

This week Conway received the 30 year legacy award for having an active and engaged PTA for 30 years.  Let’s keep this tradition alive and keep the programs active for our students.

WE NEED YOU!
