Conway Community News - Week 32

As an EL Education school, Conway creates opportunities for students to investigate and value their different histories and talents as well as those of other communities and cultures.  Diversity and Inclusion increases the richness of ideas, creative power, problem-solving ability, and respect for others.  This is one of our 10 design principles that shapes our vision for an EPIC school.

Before spring break, we had the pleasure to share our practices with district leaders from the Sacramento area.  These educational leaders were provided an opportunity to visit classrooms, hear from our student ambassadors, and listen to our teachers share the intentionality of our transformation and story of impact. Our visitors observed how classrooms are alive with inquiry, engagement, and joy.

Later this month, Conway will host a two day Site Seminar for forty educators to come see the EL Model in action.

Another tradition at Conway is student-led welcome tours for all new learners to our campus.  It is important that every family and student feels our Crew spirit and are welcomed into our community.  These student ambassadors are charged with leading the experience, introducing them to staff, sharing some key information, and making special connections with our newest member to our crew.

National School Librarian Day was celebrated on April 4th while we were on spring break.  Conway would like to celebrate, Ms. DB on this week when we return.  Families, please have your student write a special thank you note, bring in a flower, or a book to show our librarian how much we appreciate all she does for our crew.

Our incentive BMX assembly was rescheduled for Thursday, April 13th since our last one was rained out.   Teachers will recommend students that have been aligning their behavior to our EPIC norms consistently and will be invited to the EPIC event.  We look forward to having 100% of our students attending.

Finally, I am happy to introduce our new school counselor, Elizabeth Smith.  Ms. Smith received her bachelor's degree in social science from California State University San Marcos and her Masters degree in school counseling from National University. Before becoming a school counselor,  she worked as a behavior interventionist at an elementary school in Oceanside for several years.  She worked with children with special needs and has always loved working with children.  She has spent most of her time working with elementary school aged children and wanted to become a school counselor because of her desire to help children become more successful students, guide them to effectively deal with a variety of problems in the school setting as well as outside of the school setting, and inspire them to be there best selves. She is super excited to work with all of the students and families at Conway Elementary and looks forward to meeting you all soon.  She can be reached at esmith@eusd.org or contact the office at 760-432-2435 ext 12022.

Thank you Conway Community for coming together and making our first Staff Egg Hunt a HUGE success! Our Conway staff really enjoyed this little gesture. We are very grateful for the donations and time dedicated to make one parent’s suggestion come to life.

I am  grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion.  Together we are creating an EPIC school.  Here is another example of our EPIC Crews.

We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.
