Week 26 - February 19th, 2023

It was a welcome surprise to welcome back Mayor Dane White to Conway this week. The Mayor was so impressed by our student ambassadors that he felt compelled to return and recognize their excellence in leadership and presented them with a special recognition from the Escondido City Council during our weekly College & Crew Celebration. Then the Mayor joined us in dance during our EPIC rap. This was a testament of our efforts to lift the unique genius of our learners.

Our crew celebrated Kindness week this past week and created heartfelt messages to share. Our crew shined kindness, love, and brought on the JOY!

This week our Girls on the Run program began. Over twenty girls joined our teacher leaders, Mrs. Brady, Mrs. Cisterna, Coach E, and support staff Mrs Maldonado as they build our girls’ abilities to recognize and embrace their inner strength and make meaningful connections with others. Our trained staff Crew use physical activity and dynamic discussions to build social, emotional and physical skills while encouraging healthy habits for life. We are all excited to have this incredible program at Conway this year!

6th grade students demonstrated excellence while dissecting and identifying the different parts of a cow eye today in STEM class. One of the unique learning experiences Conway offers to our 6th grade learners.

As we continue to work hard and grow our hearts, minds and spirits, students are preparing for their student-led conferences to be held the last week of February. Please see the SLC letter sent home by your classroom teachers in 2nd - 6th grades. Kindergarten SLC letter and first grade SLC letter will follow a different schedule. This second round of conferences is a very unique opportunity for your student to share their progress this year. It is also a unique practice for our school and the only school in EUSD that successfully holds a second student-led conference during an academic year. We believe it’s crucial to keep our families informed and crucial for us to create this parnershp in learning for our students. Please schedule your time for this special appointment this week.

Empowering Learners to Contribute their Genius to the World

Announcements - 6th Grade Applications OPEN soon!

This week an email will be sent to all current 5th grade families. The email will include a link to apply for one of the 50 spots available for 6th grade at Conway. These are first-come spots and will move to a lottery system if the applications exceed the fifty available spots. Conway will then fill any remaining spots from our waitlist from other EUSD schools. Priority will be given to current Conway students.

The survey is for ALL Conway families to complete and to indicate school choice for the 2023-24 school year, this includes the application for Conway 6th grade, Rincon, or other school. This information will also help us best support your students' transition.

Coffee and Crew with the Principal

Please join us for a cup of coffee in Crew this coming Thursday, February 23 at 8:30 am. Hot coffee will be ready in the MPR for families to enjoy right after the College & Crew Assembly. Attendees will experience first hand what CREW is all about & will also get a GOLDEN COUGAR PAW for their student(s) attending Conway. Golden Cougar Paws are pretty exclusive and are worth 5 Cougar Points which can be used to shop our Cougar Store or be redeemed in the office for additional cool items. We are EPIC in all that we do, At Conway we're not passengers, WE ARE CREW!

Yearbooks ON SALE!

We have officially entered the second half of the school year, which means that the end of the year preparations have begun. With that being said, you do not want to miss your chance on a good deal. Yearbooks are ONLY $15 now through March 24th. Yearbook price will increase to $20 after May 24. Pre-order your yearbook today, and save! Did you know that ALL 6th grade students get a Yearbook as a parting gift from the school? 6th grade families, you DO NOT NEED to preorder a yearbook for your student because it will be given to them when the time comes. Is your child in 5th or 6th grade? If so, we would like to invite you to add a personalized message or dedication for your student in our yearbook for only $5. Forms were sent home last week but if you would like another copy, please feel free to stop by the calendar located in front of the office and grab another copy. TK & Kindergarten Registration OPEN!

New Student Registration is now open online for Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Special Education Preschool. EUSD offers full-day Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs. For the 2023-2024 school year, children are eligible for TK if they turn 5 between September 2, 2023, and June 2, 2024. Students applying for Kindergarten must be age 5 on or before September 1, 2023. Students in EUSD TK and Kindergarten programs are eligible to participate in their school’s optional Expanded Learning program. After School Program Openings

YMCA before and after school programs support children in reaching their full potential by providing academic support and hands-on enrichment experiences in a safe and structured environment for children grades kindergarten through middle school. Located directly on your child’s school campus, they partner with the school by working directly with teachers to support student learning. Our staff design engaging enrichment activities to help support your child’s learning in all areas in addition to all the programs already available at your site. The YMCA’s Expanded Learning Programs are before and after school (and summer) programs funded by the California Department of Education in partnership with local school districts.
